Later, Firepaw, Graypaw, and Ravenpaw, are given hunting tests. Firepaw’s punishment for feeding himself before the clan was that he would have to care for Yellowfang. Firepaw could not abide the hunger any longer, so he ate some of the mouse too. Firepaw then kills a mouse for Yellowfang to eat. When introductions were made, the old cat’s name turns out to be Yellowfang. He then meets an old, gray she-cat, who was the banished ShadowClan medicine cat.
Firepaw is then sent on a hunting patrol, and clan laws are that the clan must be fed first. Firepaw is able to crouch into a hunting crouch instinctively, which is strange because he was born a house cat. His two mentors are Lionheart and Tigerclaw. He shares mentors with Graypaw and Ravenpaw. The next day, Firepaw starts his first day of training. What I don’t like is the part when Ravenpaw falls down in the middle of talking. I like the beginning very much because most of the clan cats treat Firepaw with kindness. Bluestar then names Lionheart as the new deputy of ThunderClan. Redtail was the former deputy of ThunderClan. Tigerclaw comes into camp carrying Redtail’s dead body. Soon after Firepaw is given his clan name, Ravenpaw comes staggering into camp, that’s when Firepaw meets the clan medicine cat, Spottedleaf. The reason why Firepaw’s name ends in “paw” is because all apprentices’ names end in paw. Rusty is then taken to the ThunderClan camp, and given his clan name, Firepaw. The two cats soon become friends, and when Graypaw smells other cats, he bows down, Rusty soon copies him. He soon gets into a fight with another cat who, when introduced to him, is Graypaw. He starts to stalk a mouse, but he doesn’t get the mouse because of some rustling in the bushes. He then goes outside to look at the forest beyond his backyard. When he wakes up, he eats some food, but it turns out that he doesn’t enjoy it. The beginning of the book starts off in one of Rusty’s dreams. I like the prologue because it takes place in the midst of battle, and some strange things that we don’t know also happened in the battle. I like Ravenpaw very much, but also feel fear for him because he knows a very dark secret. Ravenpaw is also a loyal cat because he always obeys orders. He also is very secretive because Fireheart knows that Ravenpaw knows something about something. Ravenpaw is a cat who is scared and mainly scared of Tigerclaw. I don’t like Tigerclaw at all because of the way that he treats Fireheart and Ravenpaw. There is also something very suspicious about Tigerclaw because of the way that Ravenpaw acts. Tigerclaw is a warrior who is forcible to Ravenpaw, and he doesn’t appeal to Fireheart. I like Bluestar mostly because she is wise and thinks about her decisions. Bluestar is the leader of ThunderClan who at times can be rough, but at other times, can be kind. I like this because even though Rusty passed clan boundries, Graypaw is kind to him. Graypaw is a kind and curious cat who likes Rusty even though he’s a house cat. I also like this about Rusty because he was born a house cat. He also can do what a clan cat could do by instinct. This is what I like about Rusty because he’s a very curious character. Rusty is a house cat who wants to venture beyond his backyard, so he’s a very curious cat who wants to live in the forest. The main characters are Firepaw (Rusty), Graypaw, Bluestar, Tigerclaw, and Ravenpaw. The wild cats would also refer to things differently from humans. It takes place in the present, which I like because it’s easier to understand the words that they use like the word “kittypet.” I enjoy the way that they speak because their wild cats, so they refer to house cats as “kittypets.” The book includes personification, but only the people and cats can be understood.
